New insights into the microstructure of Mg-0.6Ca alloys using electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy - A correlative characterization.

Abstract

Powder processed Mg-Ca alloys are often reported to show homogeneous degradation due to their homogeneous microstructures. However, ambiguity in the preliminary cell adhesion studies indicate the necessity to check surface contaminations due to carbon (C) residuals. This is probable as polymeric binders are used in additive manufacturing (AM) technologies like metal injection molding (MIM) and 3D printing. In this regard, Raman spectroscopy was utilized to reveal carbonaceous residuals in the MIM Mg-0.6Ca microstructures.
