Abstract
The increasing demands for carrying capacity combined with low weight in the automotive and aerospace industries require special solutions
in the choice of materials. Polymer-based composites are not always the right choice, because their mechanical properties (strength,
stiffness, hardness) and operating temperatures are limited, and their manufacture and repair can be costly. The application range can be significantly extended by use of a metallic matrix. In particular, when using light metals such as aluminum, titanium, and magnesium, a low
density can be achieved.
