In vitro analysis of magnesium corrosion in orthopaedic biomaterials

Abstract

Magnesium and its alloys are promising candidates as implant materials for bone applications. This chapter will focus on the methodology for performing in vitro analysis, and summarize current knowledge on various influencing factors, starting with material preparation and processing. Recommendations will be given to establish analytical methods useful in determining realistic data for the relatively complex corrosion process of this material class.
