Silver Nanoparticles at Charged Membranes

Abstract

An X-ray reflectivity study on silver nanoparticle adsorption at lipid membranes is presented. The silver nanoparticles were stabilised via electrostatic repulsion between the negatively charged particles. The three lipids staryl acid, stearyl alcohol and stearyl amine were used, offering differently charged head groups. The structure of the liquid–gas interface was not influenced in the case of stearic acid and stearyl aclcohol having negatively charged and neutral headgroups, respectively. Only at stearyl amine, with positively charged headgroups, the adsorption of silver nanoparticles was observed.
