Abstract
Novelis is convinced that magnesium twin-roll casting can benefit from technology developed for
aluminium. Metal feeding and tip are key elements, especially regarding heat losses compensation,
compatibility with liquid magnesium and positioning. Roll coating equipment has been adapted from
aluminium twin-roll casting standards. The same technology could also be applied for gap control and cooling systems as heat extraction needs are similar for magnesium and aluminium.
