Abstract
Organic-inorganic membranes are worldwide under investigation with the purpose of achieving reduced methanol crossover for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) and to increase the proton conductivity at temperatures higher than 100oC in hydrogen fuel cells. The advantages and disadvantages of these membranes are here discussed here with membrane examples containing aerosol, layered silicates and modified silica as passive fillers as well as zirconium phosphate and heteropolyacids as conductive fillers.
