Multiple Time Scale Analysis of Suspended Sediment Concentration in the Wadden Sea

Abstract

A frequency analysis was carried out on an 8-month high frequency data set of suspended particulate matter concentration (SPMC) measurements taken in a tidal inlet of the German Wadden Sea. It was found that about 50% of the variability in SPMC from March 2006 to October 2006 is due to tidal forcing. The non-tidally influenced dynamics in SPMC are well correlated but slightly delayed to wind speed time-series.
