Interaction of chondrocytes and stem cells with lipid covered implant materials

Abstract

The use of metal implants is appropriate for a broad range of applications in bone repair or,substitution. To achieve a better interconnection between bone and implant, bioactive surfaces, are needed, which specifically interact with the surrounding tissue. A promising but so far not, thoroughly investigated approach is the covering of the surface by lipids. By mimicking the, surface to which the cells adhere with a model membrane the artificial character of the implant is,reduced and the implant recognition by the surrounding tissue minimized.
