It was found that the Ce3+ ions can be released from the inertly incorporated zeolite microparticles via ion-exchange as well as from dissolved coating material which contains high concentration of reactively incorporated zeolites when corrosion occurs, leading to improved corrosion resistance of the oxide layer in 0.5 wt% NaCl solution. The newly formed cerium hydroxides/oxides when corrosion occurs can stabilize and enhance the barrier property of the passive film at metal/coating interface.
