In the special occasion of the ACS-ENFL Energy Lectureship Award symposium, I will present a brief overview of my scientific activity in the field of artificial photosynthesis by focusing on the understanding of degradation of BiVO4 and integration of protection layers via high throughput approaches. I will also show other case examples based on Si/GaN photocathodes for hydrogen production, and Cu2O photoelectrodes for CO2 reduction, where we understand how integrated photoelectrodes transform under operando conditions.
