Addition of Na2CO3 as a corrosion converter for corroded AZ61 Mg alloys can transform corrosion products into protective coatings in 0.6 M NaCl solution. Electrochemical tests and surface characterizations are performed to illustrate this transformation. Results suggest that the introduction of 0.5 M Na2CO3 effectively eliminates corrosion products from AZ61 Mg alloy, leading to the formation of a dense protective coating primarily composed of magnesium carbonate/hydroxycarbonate even within high-concentrated corrosive environments. This innovation in corrosion conversion represents a promising approach for advanced corrosion protection in Mg alloy applications.
