In general, Janus structures have a,compartmentalized surface and can be divided into three classes according to their architecture – spherical Janus micelles (3D)1, 2, two types of Janus cylinders (1D)3 and Janus sheets or discs (2D), representing the intermediate case of dimensionality (see scheme 1). The,synthesis of such non-centrosymmetric structures with compartmentalized coronas is a demanding task for the synthetic chemist. Hence, only a few real nanosized polymer-based Janus structures are known in literature.
